Keto Chocolate Tahini Fat Bombs

These little keto chocolate tahini fat bombs taste like a peanut butter cup without the nuts! They come together quickly and easily and will help keep your face out of the Reese's bag. | low-carb recipes | low carb high fat | perrysplate.com

I’ve been on a quasi keto kick lately and dabbling in some low-carb dessert action. (Mostly eating keto chocolate. Thanks Lily’s.)  After such a great response for the White Chocolate Raspberry Fat Bombs I shared last year, I wanted to make another kind of fat bomb — a chocolate version.

Keto chocolate treats are super easy to make, too. You can have these ready to eat in under an hour!

What’s a fat bomb?

A keto fat bomb little low-carb treat that’s FILLED with healthy fats — usually coconut oil, cacao butter, etc. They’re a good way to enjoy a little something sweet while boosting your healthy fats.

Since I’m also on a chocolate-tahini kick lately I wanted to make a keto chocolate fat bomb that tasted kind of like a peanut butter cup — but without the peanuts.

Turns out tahini + chocolate creates a peanut butter-chocolate flavor.

And since tahini is made from sesame seeds,  it’s nut-free! It’s a great option for those who have peanut (or any nut) allergies. If you don’t have a problem with nuts, you can use any kind of nut butter in these.

Store-bought chocolate is one of the things that is hardest to let go of if you’re eating low-carb — even high quality dark chocolate, because 99% of it is sweetened with sugar. I love using high quality cacao powder, like Anthony’s. (I learned recently that COCOA powder is roasted and CACAO powder is raw, keeping more of the nutrients in tact.)

Thankfully it’s easier to find low-carb friendly chocolate. Lily’s is my favorite!

What is in Keto Chocolate Fat Bombs?

Cacao butter is also easy to find online. Cacao butter is solid at room temperature and helps to hold everything together better. You could swap it out for coconut oil, but you’d have to be careful and keep them chilled.

And, like the other fat bombs I posted, I use the erythritol-based Swerve confectioner’s sugar. (I order both from Amazon because the prices are better there.) You can use any low-carb powdered sugar you like.

I also added some Maldon sea salt flakes to the top. So, so glad I did. My tahini is unsalted, so it gave it a little bit of extra dimension. If you have salted tahini you may want to omit the salt flakes.

Actually, get a box of Maldon sea salt flakes anyway because it’s a FABULOUS finishing salt and you can make a whole bunch of Everything Bagel Seasoning. Mmm.

Also, I used a mini muffin tin for these, but you can use a full-size tin — just fill them 1/3 full so they’re a manageable size. Or not. “Manageable size” is totally relative. (I hold my desserts pretty well.)

Look how cute these are! I was so happy with the way they turned out. I highly recommend storing them in the fridge since they soften quite a bit at room temperature.

I love taking these in an insulated container on road trips. And they’re awesome to have around during candy-centric holidays. And I feel so much better if I happen I eat a few more than I planned — unlike actual peanut butter cups.

Keto Chocolate Tahini Fat Bombs

Keto Chocolate Tahini Fat Bombs

Yield: 16 mini cups
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes

These nut-free tahini fat bombs taste like peanut butter cups! If you're able and would rather use nut butter, you can substitute any kind here.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces cacao butter, broken into pieces
  • 1 ounce 100% cacao baking chocolate, broken into pieces
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup tahini (sesame butter)
  • 1/4 cup low-carb powdered sweetener, like Swerve confectioners sweetener
  • Flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Melt the cacao butter, chocolate, and coconut oil together in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir often to avoid scorching.
  2. When the chocolate mixture is completely melted and combined, whisk in the tahini and sweetener.
  3. Line a mini muffin tin with liners. Divide the chocolate-tahini mixture among the cups.
  4. Chill for at least 20-30 minutes or until firm.
  5. Store chilled.

Notes

Nat's Notes:

1. You can use a granulated low-carb sweetener, but it doesn't dissolve well and the cups end up grainy. Tasty, but not the ideal texture.
2. Feel free to substitute any type of nut butter in these.
4. You can use additional coconut oil in place of the cacao butter, but it won't stay quite as solid if you are transporting them.

These are delicious! 🙂 However for strict keto, I plugged all the ingredients into the Carb Manager app and came up with 4g total carbs per piece, at 16 pieces. Even if .7 is correct for net carbs, which still seems very low, it could lead to confusion for those of us carefully tracking total carbs.

I plugged the ingredients into the My Fitness Pal nutrition calculator and that's what it came up with for net carbs. I'm willing to bet that online calculators don't always spit out the same information.

Hi! I want to make these in a fancy ice cube tray... do you think I need to line it with a parchment paper or will they 'come out' easily?

Hi! I'm a little late responding, but I think these would work in any kind of mold without a liner.

Hi and Thanks For posting this. Can you please clarify what you mean by nutrition info “per cup”. What is the volume of the cup? 1 oz?

Hi Peggy! By "cup" I mean 1 dessert cup. This recipe makes 16 mini chocolate cups (if you use a mini muffin tin.)

Great idea! I will try then tomorrow. But...Is it really 7 g. of net carbs in one fat bomb ? Can I make the fat bombs in one dish and them cut them into small bars?

Natalie Perry

.7, yes. According to my calculation. If you make the same number of fat bombs as it states in the recipe.

Any idea if I can use plain cacao powde and regular butter for both the cacao butter and cacao squares? Maybe some coconut oil?

Natalie Perry

Monday 22nd of July 2019

Oh, and yes, you can use cocoa powder in place of the cacao squares.

Natalie Perry

You'd have better luck with coconut oil. They won't stay quite as firm at room temperature than if you used cacao butter, though. (And regular butter would be even more mushy.)
