About Me

About Natalie Perry

Hi! I’m Natalie — recipe developer, food photographer, and the voice behind Perry’s Plate. You can contact me directly at natalie@perrysplate.com.

I started Perry’s Plate in 2008 as a place to share the recipes I was making for my family. What began as a small personal blog eventually grew into a full recipe site with hundreds of tested recipes, two cookbooks, and a community of home cooks who love flavorful, approachable food.

These days you’ll find everything from quick weeknight dinners to big weekend cooking projects here. All recipes I’ve tested in my own kitchen.

Recipe Developer & Cookbook Author

Developing recipes has been my creative outlet for years. I love taking flavors that inspire me (whether from restaurants, travel, or seasonal ingredients) and turning them into recipes that home cooks can confidently recreate.

My experience as a blogger has opened up some exciting doors. I’ve written two cookbooks, The Big Book of Paleo Slow Cooking and The Big Book of Paleo Pressure Cooking. I've contributed recipes and photography to several publications. Every recipe on Perry’s Plate is tested multiple times in my kitchen before it’s published.

My goal is simple: help people cook food that feels exciting, nourishing, and totally doable on a weeknight.

Food Photography Background

Photography has always been a big part of my creative process. I am self-taught and almost exclusively use natural light.

All of the photos on Perry’s Plate are taken by me, usually right in the creative work space in my home. I did all the photography for my own two cookbooks and have spent years developing my style of bright, vibrant food photography.

For me, food photography isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s about capturing the feeling of cooking and sharing good food.

My Approach to Recipes

Most of my recipes start with something I’m craving.

Sometimes it’s a restaurant dish I can’t stop thinking about. Sometimes it’s a seasonal ingredient I want to build a meal around. And sometimes it’s just the question, “What can I make with all the leftover bits of stuff in the fridge?”

I test recipes multiple times and focus on:

  • bold, balanced flavors
  • practical techniques for home cooks
  • seasonal ingredients that are easy to find
  • things that families can make and eat together

Cooking should feel approachable and fun. Not stressful!

Creating nourishing recipes is also a priority for me. Over the years we dabbled in paleo and gluten free lifestyles (hence the paleo cookbooks).

The majority of the recipes on my site are gluten free. Many are also dairy free and refined sugar free. And some are filled with all of those things and are deeply satisfying. We don't adhere to a specific diet label.

Wild Rise Pizza Co.

I’m also the founder of Wild Rise Pizza Co., a sourdough pizza kit project that grew out of my long-time love of fermentation and homemade pizza.

Wild Rise is all about helping people make incredible pizza at home using naturally fermented dough and high quality ingredients. It combines things I love deeply: sourdough baking and helping people feel confident in the kitchen.

Featured In

My writing and photography has been featured in several publications including Bon Appétit, The Huffington Post, ABCNews, Glamour, and Condé Nast Traveler. I did freelance photography for Clean Eating Magazine and have worked with many major brands creating recipes and photos with their products.

From 2010-2020 I worked as a contributor to Ree Drummond’s websites: Pioneer Woman's Tasty Kitchen Blog and Pioneer Woman: Food & Friends.

Recently, I have been featured on BoiseDevEats and The Personal Side of Business Podcast. I talked about my journey from being a food blogger to a pizza entrepreneur in my YouTube Podcast Interview with Jet and we did a pizza-making demo which was super fun.

Thank you for being here at my little corner of the Internet. If you have any questions about any recipes, feel free to shoot me a message.

Happy Cooking!

xoxo

Natalie
